WCU Student Spotlight: Chimdi Maduka

Chimdi Maduka witnessed first-hand what impact a nurse has on patients. After following his mom to her job as a nurse and watching her interact with patients, Maduka听said he knew he was meant to follow in her footsteps.

鈥淚 always knew I wanted to do something where I could be a positive light in someone鈥檚 life,鈥 he stated. 鈥淚 felt like nursing was that calling for me.鈥

While Maduka was heavily influenced by watching his mother, he鈥檚 ready to follow his own path. He鈥檚 headed towards working in ICU but is planning to push himself further to become a certified听registered nurse anesthetist. Maduka has no plans to give up and is thankful for everything WCU has to offer.

鈥淲ith this school, they give you a lot of resources and places to turn to for help,鈥 he explained, 鈥淪o I鈥檝e never felt like I was alone or wanted to quit. I have way too many resources to take advantage of.鈥

Maduka is also offering some sound advice for any potential nurses starting at WCU.

鈥淏eing that it鈥檚 an accelerated program, you really have to hit the ground running,鈥 he said. 鈥淭ime management is a skill you have to have in order to succeed. You have to be able to prioritize your schoolwork with anything on the outside to get it done.鈥
