WCU Nursing Students Join International Honor Society

More than 200 国产主播 nursing students in California and Dallas became part of an international organization of distinguished nurse leaders after joining The Honor Society of Nursing,听Sigma Theta Tau International.

鈥淪igma Theta Tau International has been around more than 90 years and at 国产主播 we have our own chapter 鈥 Chi Beta,鈥 STTI chapter President and WCU faculty Melanie Cross said. 鈥淭his is how nurses have a global voice. Sigma Theta Tau International has a seat at the United Nations and we, for more than 90 years, have celebrated excellence in nursing, knowledge, service and leadership.鈥

At the Knott鈥檚 Berry Farm Hotel in Brea, more than 120 WCU students plus friends and family packed in the main hall for the cording ceremony on Aug. 20. WCU Dallas students will receive their cords in a separate event in October.

Sigma Theta Tau International was founded in 1922 and the society鈥檚 name comes from the meaning of the Greek words聽Storge,听Tharsos听补苍诲听Time: 鈥渓ove,鈥 鈥渃ourage鈥 and 鈥渉onor.鈥 STTI has more than 500 chapters and 130,000 members worldwide.

Membership is by invitation only and undergraduate and RN students must have completed half of the nursing curriculum with a 3.0-grade point or higher and rank in the upper 35th percentile of the graduating class in order to become a member.

Cross called STTI membership 鈥渁n opportunity for our students to network internationally鈥 and urged people to check out聽Chi Beta鈥檚 web site聽to view the chapter’s activities.

鈥淐hi Beta has done an excellent job in meeting the聽UN Millennium Goals聽and we have focused on聽ending child trafficking,鈥 Cross said.
