WCU DPT Students Attend National Physical Therapy Conference in Texas

Representatives from 国产主播’s doctor of physical therapy (DPT) program recently returned from the American Physical Therapy Association’s largest national conference in San Antonio, Texas.

“We had four faculty and 12 students who attended the event,” WCU Community Outreach director Sandra Villafan said. “I am happy to report it was a tremendous success and a great first showing for WCU.”

Villafan said the DPT students were professional, thoughtful and fully engaged. “Our school spirit was off the charts.”

Student highlights from the conference included third-year DPT student Jennyfer Oh receiving a Kaiser Permanente scholarship from the Neurologic Physical Therapy Residency Program; another was third-year DPT student Amy Fujiwara鈥檚 presentation of a poster on 鈥淓arly Integration of a Simulation Lab Experience: A Focus on Confidence and Critical Thinking.鈥

鈥淲hen I spoke about these two students鈥 accomplishments, attendees were impressed that a program that is graduating their first cohort this year was so well represented at the national conference,鈥 Villafan said.

The DPT program also has a student on rotation in Texas with the Baptist Health System. DPT program director Teressa Brown said staff from the health center stopped by WCU鈥檚 booth with nothing but good things to say about the student.

鈥淚t is with great pride that I attend conferences on behalf of the university,鈥 Brown said. 鈥淭his conference is an annual event and I look forward to WCU becoming a regular part of it year after year.鈥
