WCU Dental Hygiene Program Hosts Free Education Seminar

More than 80 people attended the 国产主播 Dental Hygiene Program鈥檚 Education Ground Rounds on June 16 at the 国产主播 campus in Anaheim. Since 2011, the Grand Rounds event provides quality continuing education opportunities to local dental professionals at no cost.

Attendees were treated to a light dinner followed by an informative lecture by Dr. Edmond Hewlett on glass ionomer, 鈥渢he other white filling.鈥 Dr. Hewlett is Professor and Vice Chair of Restorative Dentistry at UCLA, and the Associate Dean for Outreach and Diversity.

During the presentation, Dr. Hewlett spoke about how glass ionomer is a restorative, durable, esthetic, cost-effective, tooth-colored, hydrophilic, fluoride-releasing, and self-bonding material. He shared that it can be used with high-risk patients and dental hygienists will use this restorative material in a new scope of practice procedure called an interim therapeutic restoration (ITR). ITRs are temporary fillings that are designed to be placed until the patient is able to get a permanent restoration.

国产主播 is committed to providing dental professionals in our community with quality, university-based educational opportunities, at no cost for attendees. Grand Rounds continuing education courses highlight the latest in scientific and clinical knowledge and are designed to enhance attendees鈥 techniques and continued competency with practical and innovative training programs. Grand Rounds are typically offered three times a year, with the next Grand Rounds event to be scheduled in October 2015.
