WCU Dallas Simulation Expert Discusses Importance of Simulation Learning

Vivian Gamblian, RN, MSN, CHSE, is the Simulation Center manager at 国产主播-Dallas. She joined WCU in 2015 and has a wealth of experience and knowledge about the latest developments in simulation technology and teaching the next generation of nursing professionals.

鈥淚n today鈥檚 healthcare environment, we don鈥檛 have the luxury of nursing students to take a few years to be independent. The expectation of our employers is that our graduates are fully ready to work independently. In order to make that happen, we have to prepare them with that expectation,鈥 she said.

Gamblian came to WCU from Baylor University where she served as a faculty member. She is one of 国产主播鈥檚 three Certified Healthcare Simulation Educators, a prestigious designation that only a few hundred in the U.S. hold.

鈥淲hat we鈥檝e learned is that expertise is being able to identify the early pattern of change. The best advice I鈥檝e been given is that when you have a gut feeling that something isn鈥檛 right, explore that change,” Gamblian said. “When students first start studying nursing they think everything is black and white. But in simulation, students learn that the pieces don鈥檛 always fit together that easily.鈥
