When asked why she pursued an education in pharmacy, alumna Jessie S. had a very poetic answer: 鈥淚 wanted to be the link between the pain and the healing.鈥�

Jessie had always known she wanted to go into the medical field in order to help people. Becoming a pharmacist gave her the tools to do that.

She describes her education at WCU鈥檚 School of Pharmacy as being very hands-on.

鈥淚 especially enjoyed the patient case simulation experiences. It allowed us to have very hands-on, practical experience in real-life clinical settings鈥� Those simulation centers also really gave us a sense of understanding where pharmacists fit in the healthcare field.鈥�

Another aspect that Jessie loved about her WCU education in the PharmD program was the accessibility of the professors. 鈥淲e had a lot of one-on-one interactions with them. Their office doors were always open,鈥� she said.

Nursing was WCU-Texas alumna Sarah H.鈥檚 second career change, but she didn鈥檛 let that stop her from pursuing a lifelong dream. 鈥淚鈥檝e always loved the medical field,鈥� Sarah said. 鈥淕rowing up, I wanted to be a nurse or a doctor.鈥�

However, it wasn鈥檛 until after Sarah had to step into a caretaker role for her father when he was diagnosed with cancer that she realized how much nursing meant to her. 鈥淚t just really reminded me how much I love caring for people.鈥�

While she had the passion for nursing, Sarah still needed the tools to pursue the career. That鈥檚 where 国产主播 came in.

鈥淏eing a second-career-change student, I didn鈥檛 want to do another whole four years for another bachelor鈥檚. The fact that it was an accelerated program was like, 鈥極kay, great, I don鈥檛 have to spend four years.鈥欌��

Sometimes, life throws you a curveball. WCU-Texas nursing alumna Paola B. didn鈥檛 grow up thinking she would be a nurse. In fact, she wanted to be a veterinarian and even went as far as studying for a year to become vet. However, after her grandmother got sick, Paola stepped into a caretaker role and the experience helped her realize that nursing was her true passion.

鈥淢y instructors were amazing,鈥� Paola said of her time at 国产主播. 鈥淎ny time we needed anything, we鈥檇 just go knock on their door.鈥�

Having recently passed her NCLEX, Paola found a role as a pediatric IMU nurse. We couldn鈥檛 be happier to have her be a part of the WCU alumni family!

No matter how good your organizational skills are, you can鈥檛 plan for everything. WCU-Miami alumna Georgia B. learned this the hard way when she had to have emergency surgery during the middle of her BSN program.

鈥淭hey supported me from day one,鈥� Georgia said of the staff and faculty who stepped in to help ensure she wouldn鈥檛 fall behind. 鈥淭hey offered me ways to be able to make up my work, take tests that I missed, make up any assignments, and still manage to graduate on time.鈥�

When asked what inspired her to become a nurse, WCU-Miami alumna Jill M. has a simple answer: 鈥淭o make a difference in people鈥檚 lives.鈥�

Like Jill, many of our students pursue their nursing education because they want to make an impact in their community. At WCU, our job is to give you the tools to get there through a hands-on nursing education.

鈥淭he school prepared me for clinicals by providing a lot of one-on-one with the instructor,鈥� Jill said of her education. 鈥淢y instructors knew what they were talking about.鈥�

Additionally, Jill cites the simulation labs on campus as an important reason why she became the nurse she is today. 鈥淲e learned what to do and what not to do. Having the sim labs helped me be more confident when I gave patient care because I had already practiced the skills. It made me a better nurse at the end.鈥�

For many of our students, nursing is their way to make a difference in the world. WCU-Texas alumna Alexis C. was inspired to pursue a career in this field after a nurse made a difference in her life in the days before her grandmother passed away.

鈥淪he was at a hospital and her prognosis wasn鈥檛 good,鈥� Alexis said of the experience. 鈥淏ut the nurses there kind of sat with us, made sure we ate, made sure we showered, and all of that stuff. I could [鈥 see the passion they had, and I wanted to make other people feel that way.鈥�

Alexis chose 国产主播-Texas and began pursuing her degree, graduating from the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program in 2020. But her academic journey wasn鈥檛 over then.

She still had to pass her licensure exam before becoming a registered nurse. However, Alexis said that her preparation left her feeling confident for the exam. 鈥淭he day we graduated, I was like, 鈥業鈥檓 going to go take my NCLEX tomorrow.鈥� That鈥檚 how prepared I felt,鈥� she said.
