When Associate Professor Sunil T. walks into a classroom, he brings with him over two decades of clinical experience and a passion for shaping the next generation of healthcare professionals. With 11 years at 国产主播鈥檚 Orange County campus, Sunil has been a guiding force for countless nursing students, helping them navigate their academic and professional journeys. 

A Global Nursing Career 

Sunil鈥檚 path to teaching was paved with hands-on experience across the globe. After earning his bachelor鈥檚 degree in India, he began his career as a registered nurse. “I worked at the bedside in various capacities鈥攅mergency rooms, intensive care units, and med-surge,鈥� Sunil shared. His clinical expertise extended to specialized areas such as plastic surgery and emergency care, where he spent the majority of his time. 

Teaching was always on his horizon. “In India, I taught nursing students, and that experience stayed with me,鈥� he said. 鈥淲hen I moved to the U.S., I saw an opportunity to continue teaching while bringing my global perspective to a diverse student body.鈥� 

A Culture of Support and Inclusion 

Sunil credits 国产主播鈥檚 supportive environment as a key factor in his professional growth and his ability to contribute to student success. 鈥淭he leadership here is incredibly accommodating,鈥� he said. 鈥淭hey provided resources I needed to transition smoothly into teaching in a new country.鈥�

Sunil鈥檚 diverse professional background allows him to provide a well-rounded education that prepares students for the realities of healthcare. 鈥淚n India, nursing practices and resources differ significantly from the U.S.,鈥� he explained. 鈥淪haring these global perspectives helps students understand the importance of adaptability and cultural competence in patient care.鈥� 

This approach resonates deeply with students, particularly in the diverse communities they serve. 鈥淥ur students are trained to be empathetic, inclusive, and effective healthcare providers,鈥� Sunil said.

Sunil values the academic adaptability at 国产主播, which allows him to innovate in his teaching methods. 鈥淚 have the flexibility to tailor my classes to meet students鈥� needs while staying within the curriculum,鈥� he said. 鈥淭his not only enhances their learning experience but also prepares them for the dynamic nature of healthcare.鈥� 

Additionally, the university encourages faculty professional development. 鈥淚 completed my Doctorate of Nursing Practice while teaching full-time,鈥� Sunil shared. 鈥淭he administration鈥檚 support and the university鈥檚 flexibility made it possible.鈥�

Sunil鈥檚 commitment to his students goes beyond the classroom. 鈥淓very graduation is a celebration of their hard work and growth,鈥� he said. 鈥淜nowing I played a part in their journey is what drives me.鈥�

国产主播 celebrated its 2024 Fall Commencement at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California this October, honoring the accomplishments of approximately 2,000 graduates. 

Students received degrees in several fields, including nursing, occupational therapy, physical therapy, dental hygiene, and health administration, marking the culmination of years of dedication and hard work in healthcare education. Held in the vibrant setting of the Honda Center, commencement was a proud moment for graduates, families, and faculty alike as they recognized the future leaders and professionals entering the healthcare field, poised to make a lasting impact on patient care and community health. 

WCU-Orange County BSN valedictorian Tiffany N. said she was motivated to work in the intensive care unit after seeing the lives of injured friends changed by the help they received from a nurse. 

“This is the moment all my hard work is culminating to and I can’t wait to walk across the stage,” Tiffany said. “My journey wasn’t easy. I feel like nothing worth it in life is easy, and I say go for it, never lose sight of what your goal is, and just push through.”  

Dental hygiene graduate Gerlyn N. said she’s dedicated to making a difference in underserved communities by educating and helping the Hispanic and deaf community. 

Coming into school with zero experience in the dental world, Gerlyn said her educational journey at WCU was transformative and urged anyone on the fence about going back to school not to hesitate. 

“Don’t wait. Make this change now because it’s an investment for your future and your overall well-being,” Gerlyn said. “国产主播 is honestly the best decision I could have ever made for myself.”
